Science
At Thames Ditton Junior School, we aim to provide a rich science curriculum which challenges, inspires, and motivates all pupils; nurturing their curiosity to discover the world around them. We want to excite pupils to explore scientific ideas and encourage each child to be inquisitive; equipping them to make predictions, analyse, question effectively and collaborate to solve problems.
Science is a significant part of daily life and it is interwoven in everyday experiences. We embrace a hands-on learning experience, delivered through scientific enquiry and our lessons also reflect upon and consolidate prior knowledge, vocabulary, and skills. Throughout the progressive programmes of study, the pupils will acquire and develop the key knowledge that has been identified within each unit and across each year group, as well as the application of scientific skills. We ensure that the skills are built-on and developed throughout pupil’s time at school so that they can positively apply their knowledge of science when working scientifically. Through this we aim for the pupils to independently use a range of equipment, ask questions, conduct experiments, build arguments, and confidently explain scientific concepts."
