Staff and children observed the 2 minutes silence on Thursday at 12 noon and spent time this week learning more about VE Day.
The children enjoyed a special VE day assembly on Friday. Children had asked Mr Bond’s mother questions as she was their age on VE day 1945. The assembly featured an interview with Mrs Bond as she answered their questions.
She recalled the happiness that the war was over but brought her experiences to life as she recounted seeing the faces of a scared German bomber pilot and rear gunner flying below tree top level outside her back garden.
Hopefully the children will take time to find out about their own family’s WW2 connections.
Within one of the VE Day lessons, after looking at a primary source about VE Day, the year 3 children designed their own VE day celebration invitations.
