This term, Year 3 have enthusiastically begun their new Science topic: Plants. All the children have enjoyed two wonderfully busy afternoons planting seeds, and we’re thrilled to report that a wide variety are already beginning to sprout! From sunflowers and beans to cress and wildflowers, there’s a real buzz in the classroom as we watch our seedlings grow each day.
Our focus has been on understanding the requirements for seed germination and the conditions plants need to thrive. Through hands-on investigations and close observation, the children are learning about light, water, warmth, and soil – and how each factor plays a role in plant growth. We've started keeping plant diaries to track progress, and some pupils are already spotting tiny shoots breaking through the soil.
In addition to our classroom planting, we’ve also begun preparing a garden space just behind the Year 3 classrooms. We have started digging over the ground to get it ready for transplanting some of our young plants. It’s been fantastic to see the children’s excitement as they help shape our outdoor learning area.
We’re looking forward to seeing how our plants progress over the coming weeks – fingers crossed for sunshine and green thumbs! Please do ask your children about this exciting new topic. They’ve already learned so much and are eager to share their discoveries at home.
